The Pebble In The Pond

Written By Rochelle Lee

When I was leaving my job for a big change, a wise woman told me I could be the “pebble in the pond”. What I didn’t realize at the time was what it really meant.

“When you drop a pebble into a pond, ripples spread out, changing all the water in the pool. The ripples hit the shore and rebound, bumping into one another, breaking each other apart. In some small way, the pond is never the same again”.

When I started out in my new journey…excited to make a difference in my new position..upon leaving my organization my previous CEO told me that I could be the “pebble in the pond”…I could take what I had learnt and share it with others. I could be the pebble in the pond and create a ripple…that others could feel the ripple and further create change.

A year later and my new job didn’t work out and while I have gone through a sense of failure that I didn’t succeed in my position, what I learnt is this…I AM the pebble in the pond…and even though I may not see the impact of that…I believe. I believe that my impact has created greater impact.

Each one of us create a ripple in our lives-whether we know it our not. Think about the simple acts that occur everyday-opening the door for someone, saying ‘thank you’, forgiving when it is hard, or acknowledging our mistakes. Each time we do one of these many these, we create a ripple-we create the pebble in the pond and hope that this influences greater ripples.

Don’t give up-keep trying and others will notice. THAT my friends, is the pebble in the pond ❤️
